LED’s or light emitting diode’s are popular all over the world. Even the third world countries are planning to use this technology to improve their power consumption and result in better utilization of power. This technology is extremely popular in countries like Japan, as they are always interested in advanced technology products. According to experts LED’s are capable of saving as much as 80% of electricity and have a long working life of 40000 hours. These are not just energy efficient but eco-friendly too.

As per newspaper reports LED’s are energy efficient because they reduce carbon dioxide emissions and are do not emit mercury. These bulbs if used for 10 hours a day can last up to 10 years so the initial cost may be high but their long life may justify the initial cost.

led light bulbsIt has great health benefits too, firstly does not emit mercury vapours, and secondly does not cause glare and flickers hence great for the eyes! Costs less energy and has no emission of ultra-violet rays or infra-red rays, great for the skin too!

Led light bulbs have existed for a long time. They are not new to the world of lighting but new varieties of LED light bulbs keep coming up, so you can easily replace traditional form of bulbs with LED light bulbs or LED flashlight bulbs or LED tail light bulbs or LED light bulbs or LED home light bulbs. One reason why a LED light bulb scores over other bulbs is that they are energy efficient hence they save drastically on energy costs.

A very relevant question asked by a reader about LED bulbs and other forms of bulbs was-what is the cost to environment of these energy efficient bulbs, are they safe? They might be energy efficient but they contain gas- isn’t that harmful to the environment? What about when the filament goes bad can the bulb be recycled? A very important consideration in the present times, as our environment is under serious threat from so many factors.

Here’s an interesting answer to the question posed by the reader, gases present in light bulbs that are fluorescent and other forms are harmless like neon, however they contain some amount of vapours of mercury which could be harmful. LED bulbs on the other hand are completely harmless as they have no mercury or any other toxic materials.
LED bulbs are cheaper too, so indeed a great choice!

LED light bulbs are replacing traditional 60 watt bulbs especially in commercial establishments like restaurants and malls as these last longer and consume less energy- a typical win-win formula, for business establishments. These bulbs use only 1 watt of energy and last longer. Another reason why these bulbs are increasingly being used by commercial establishments is that there is no annual maintenance cost involved.

The popularity of these bulbs can be attributed to the fantastic technology that they use. Their levels of efficiency, cost effectiveness, low energy costs and environment friendliness makes them a great choice. According to a research conducted at Boston University, these could be used to transmit data too in future. So in a way one can safely say that they are the technology of the future. People who have used LED find it extremely affordable and as far as how long they last again they are cheaper than regular bulbs.

Some other concerns with LED’s are that their efficiency decreases over a period of time that is they become dimmer. Particularly with LED’s that are operated by battery. Again facts are different as their peak lifetime is higher than mentioned and they are efficient in everyway. A reader who replaced LED’s with fluorescent bulbs said that LED’s proved to be as good as in the advertisement, this is indeed high praise!

According too a recent survey LED bulbs consume just about 6 watts power and are as powerful as a 60 watts bulb! That is indeed a lot to write home about! Unlike traditional light bulbs their work life is 25 years. You could even carry your old bulbs if you shift houses.
